The Victorian government has announced a major boost for mountain biking at Mt Buller, with $833,000 allocated to build five new trails. This funding comes from the Regional Tourism Investment Fund 2024, aimed at enhancing regional tourism and supporting local jobs, as confirmed by Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, Steve Dimopoulos, on April 15, 2025.
Alpine Resorts Victoria will oversee the creation of nearly 10 kilometers of new single-track mountain biking trails. These will improve connectivity across the existing Mt Buller and Mt Stirling trail networks, catering to riders of all skill levels.
The new trails include three downhill (DH) and two cross-country (XC) tracks, designed to expand the mountain biking experience and attract more visitors to the region.
Mt Buller already boasts a vast network of trails, with over 59 mountain biking routes covering more than 100 kilometers.
The addition of these new trails will further enhance its reputation as a premier mountain biking destination in Australia.
This investment is part of a broader $170 million Regional Tourism and Events Fund, which supports tourism infrastructure projects across Victoria to boost visitor numbers and create jobs in regional communities.
The new trails are expected to complement upcoming events such as the 2025 GWM Mountain Bike National Championships, which will be held at Mt Buller in March, showcasing elite downhill and cross-country riders from across the country.
In summary, the $833,000 funding for five new mountain biking trails at Mt Buller will expand the trail network, improve connectivity, and strengthen the region’s appeal to mountain biking enthusiasts, supporting local tourism and economic growth in Victoria’s Alpine region.
