SLIDELL, La. — Slidell’s first-ever skate park has officially opened at John Slidell Park, providing a dedicated space for local skaters and bikers to practice and enjoy their passion.
The grand opening of the 1,000-square-foot skate park drew a large crowd, with many eager to take advantage of the new facility. Designed by skaters for skaters, the park aims to meet a long-standing need in the community.
For years, Slidell residents lacked a designated area for skateboarding, rollerblading, or biking. Many skaters had no choice but to practice in empty lots or on sidewalks, often facing safety concerns.
Bobby James, a native of Slidell, recalled the early discussions about the possibility of a skate park. What was once just an idea has now become a reality, offering local skaters a safe, permanent place to call their own.
“It’s going to create a whole new culture in Slidell,” James said. “Now there’s a safe space for skaters to gather. The fact that it was built ‘by skaters, for skaters’ means it’s built right — they know how to design it because they’ll be the ones using it.”
John Slidell Park, where the new skate park is located, closes at 10 p.m. Residents are encouraged to bring their skates and enjoy the facility, which promises to be a hub for local recreation and community connection.
