SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) approved the master plan for Homewood Mountain Resort (HMR) in January, setting the stage for major changes at the West Shore resort. The approval also ensures that Homewood will remain open to locals for skiing and riding, a commitment that many feared would be lost with the privatization of the resort’s slopes and facilities.
This week, HMR announced that while their new gondola will not be installed in 2025, the resort will open for the 2024/2025 ski season. The announcement comes after the resort was unable to open the previous season due to the withdrawal of a financial partner.
Season passes will be available for purchase starting April 14. According to HMR’s website, several pass options will be offered, including the Unlimited Access, Value Pass, Weekly 2-Day, and a True Local Pass specifically for West Shore residents. Additionally, HMR’s proposal to TRPA in January outlined plans for five-year full-time resident passes, a daily lift ticket discount for Lake Tahoe Basin First Responders, Teachers, and Military personnel, as well as four free days for honor roll students from the Lake Tahoe Basin. Pricing details have not yet been disclosed.
HMR’s master plan was initially approved by TRPA in 2011. However, legal challenges delayed its progress for nearly five years, leading to modifications. The plan’s development was further delayed by the economic downturn and the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, HMR partnered with Discovery Land Company (DLC) to help develop the resort, prompting changes to the original master plan to accommodate the new development.
