Oman Wins Silver and Bronze in Paragliding at Beach Games

Muscat – Oman’s national paragliding team made a strong start at the 3rd GCC Beach Games, which kicked off at Al Hail Beach in Seeb on Saturday, securing both silver and bronze medals on the opening day.

The competition, which will run until April 11, has attracted 14 athletes from Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait, all showcasing impressive performances.

Emirati athlete Abdullah al Hammadi claimed the gold medal with 2,350 points. Omani pilot Khalil al Tobi took the silver medal with 2,175 points, while his teammate Abdulaziz al Dahli earned the bronze with 2,000 points.

Dr. Ahmed Zahir al Alawi, Chairman of the Oman Air Sports Committee, praised the team’s preparation. “We were optimistic about the team’s fighting spirit, which contributed to these outstanding results,” he said. “The national team is well-prepared and ready to compete at the highest level.”

Dr. Al Alawi also highlighted that all necessary arrangements had been made for a smooth competition.

Dr. Abdul Munim bin Mohammed al Saadi, a member of the Oman Air Sports Committee, described the event as a significant milestone for the region.

“The paragliding championship, part of the GCC Beach Games in Muscat, is a first for the region,” he said. “It offers a great chance to exchange experiences, acquire new skills, and promote air sports.”

Saadi also noted the strong public turnout, emphasizing how the event showcased regional talent and helped raise the profile of air sports in the Gulf.
