Polk County Schools has secured funding through a Go Outside Grant from the North Carolina Youth Outdoor Engagement Commission. The grant will assist the Polk County Wolverines Mountain Bike Team with travel costs for their season finale at the Paperboy Pedal Championship in Danville, Virginia, this May.
The commission, dedicated to promoting outdoor activities and educational experiences for North Carolina’s youth, awarded the grant as part of its goal to expand outdoor opportunities for children and teenagers across the state.
Formed last year, the Polk County Wolverines Mountain Bike Team has quickly become a hub for young riders, coaches, parents, and sponsors. The team focuses on outdoor exploration, physical fitness, and community engagement. Their program aims to build both mental and physical resilience through mountain biking competitions and activities.
