MONARCH, Colo. — Monarch Mountain is closing its ski season with a special offer for skiers: lift tickets for just $39.

After receiving significant snowfall in late March, the ski area decided to extend its season through April 13. The small, independent resort then decided to make the final week even more attractive with discounted lift tickets, available both online and at the window from April 7 to April 13.

Although snow in late March was a welcome surprise, Monarch’s total snowfall for the season remains below average. By the end of March, the resort had received approximately 200 inches of snow, significantly short of its usual annual average of 350 inches.

In addition to the ticket discount, Monarch Mountain will celebrate the end of the season with its first-ever Ski Ballet competition on April 5. Ski Ballet, a sport once part of the Winter Olympics from 1988 to 1992, resembles figure skating but on skis.

The season will officially end on April 13 with the traditional Gunbarrel Challenge. This annual event features skiers hiking uphill and racing down for the coveted Golden Boot trophy.

Looking ahead, Monarch is preparing for a major expansion in the 2025-26 season. The resort plans to open No Name Basin, which will add 377 acres of lift-served terrain on the backside of the mountain. New trails are being cut on the western side of the Continental Divide, where skiers will enjoy a nearly 1,000-foot vertical drop.
