The Big Bear Cycling Association (BBCA) has announced the launch of the Dirty Burro 50K XC Mountain Bike Race, a thrilling new addition to the renowned Tour de Big Bear event. Scheduled for 2025, the race promises to showcase some of California’s most scenic and challenging mountain bike trails.
This new race builds on Big Bear’s rich legacy in mountain biking, offering riders a unique opportunity to test their skills on an exhilarating cross-country course. Set against the stunning backdrop of Big Bear Lake in the San Bernardino National Forest, participants will experience breathtaking views while tackling a challenging ride.
A New Challenge for Cyclists
The Dirty Burro 50K race spans 36 miles, beginning with a 4-mile neutral rollout before venturing into demanding single-track and double-track trails. One of the race’s standout features is the notorious Delamar Climb, an 11.6% grade that will test even the most seasoned cyclists. Riders will encounter three strategically placed aid stations throughout the race, allowing them to refuel before completing the final descent into Holcomb Valley, which marks the event’s epic finish.
Starting at Bear Mountain Resort and ending near the North Shore, the race covers 50 kilometers of rugged terrain, with a total elevation gain of 3,177 feet and a descent of 3,494 feet. Participants will compete for age group medals, overall finisher awards, and more. Details on the awards can be found on the official event website. Final course specifics will be revealed in July, and registration is now open for those eager to secure their spots and prepare for the challenge ahead.
