The Cycle Effect, a nonprofit organization based on the Western Slope, is launching a new pilot program in New Castle designed to introduce women and girls from all backgrounds to mountain biking. The program, which will run for six days, is completely free and requires no prior experience.

The Cycle Effect, which aims to empower youth through mountain biking, will provide all necessary gear, including bikes, to participants.

“We’re thrilled to offer this pilot program to the women and girls of Garfield County,” said Molly Gamble, program director for The Cycle Effect. “Our goal is to create a safe space for girls in the New Castle community to challenge themselves, build lasting friendships, and have fun riding mountain bikes. We invite everyone to join us.”

The program will take place every Friday throughout May, with the final session culminating in an adventure day on June 7.

Each session will focus on developing essential biking skills, guided by experienced coaches. In addition to bike training, the program will feature mentorship aimed at promoting healthy habits and boosting self-confidence.

“We’ve seen firsthand how our young riders in Eagle, Summit, Mesa, and Routt counties grow in confidence, realize their potential, and build strong connections within their communities,” Gamble added. “We’re excited to extend this opportunity to more girls, so they too can experience the powerful transformation that comes with access to trails, supportive coaching, and intentional mentorship through mountain biking.”
