DECORAH – The newly formed Decorah Area Mountain Bike Team, known as DIRT (Decorah Iowa Racing Team), is officially launching and invites riders of all skill levels from Kindergarten through 12th grade to join. This all-volunteer club aims to introduce young cyclists to the beautiful trails of Decorah while fostering bike skills in a positive and supportive team environment.

To participate in team practices or races, all riders and volunteer coaches must first register with the Iowa Scholastic Mountain Bike League. The registration fee is $25 per rider, covering insurance and league costs.
Race Registration and Schedule
While racing is optional, riders interested in competing must register in advance through BikeReg. For Varsity, JV, and Middle School races, the registration fee is $40 per race or $200 for all six races (with one race free). Elementary races are priced at $15 each.
The 2025 race schedule is as follows:
- May 17 – Fort Dodge
- May 31 – Decorah
- June 7 – Des Moines (Banner Trails)
- June 14 – Quad Cities (Scott County Park)
- June 21 – Cedar Rapids (Wanatee)

Financial assistance is available for riders who qualify for free or reduced lunch.
Practice Sessions Start March 26
DIRT practices will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. The first practice is scheduled for Wednesday, March 26. Practice locations and weather updates will be communicated through the SPOND app.
Safety and Equipment Requirements
To ensure safety, all riders must have a well-maintained bike, helmet, gloves, safety eyewear, and a full water bottle.
Coaches will be available to assist with any equipment concerns.
This initiative offers a great opportunity for young riders to develop their biking abilities, enjoy the outdoors, and be part of a community-oriented team.
