On Saturday, Derry’s City Skatepark welcomed skaters from across Ireland for the first All Ireland Skateboard Competition in over a decade. This event marked a significant milestone, as it was the first time Derry has hosted a national skateboarding competition.
Organized by the Irish Skateboarding Association (ISA) and Joe Hill, a lifelong skateboarder and owner of the Derry City Skatepark, the competition was sponsored by Monster Energy. Upon entering the skatepark, attendees were greeted by a vibrant and passionate community of skaters, all united in their love for the sport. The event attracted a diverse crowd, including families, friends, and lifelong skaters, providing a welcoming space for everyone.
Joe Hill, a professional skateboarder from Derry, played a pivotal role in bringing this event to life. His involvement not only highlighted his dedication to the sport but also underscored the importance of reviving skateboard culture in Ireland. The competition aimed to reignite the enthusiasm for skateboarding across the country, offering a platform for both seasoned and new skaters to come together and celebrate their shared passion.
The event also served as a catalyst for the ISA’s broader mission to promote skateboarding and advocate for more skateparks across Ireland. By hosting such competitions, the ISA hopes to inspire more people to get involved in the sport and support its growth nationwide.
