Edmonton is set to welcome its first dedicated mountain bike park, thanks to a significant provincial grant of over $600,000.
This project, spearheaded by the Edmonton Mountain Bike Alliance (EMBA), has been in development since 2018 and aims to provide a comprehensive space for mountain bikers of all skill levels.
Key Features of the Park
Location: The park will be situated in Queen Elizabeth Park, within Edmonton’s river valley, near the Walterdale Bridge.
Facilities: It will include ramps, trails, an asphalt track, a flow zone, a skills area, and a dirt jump zone, catering to both beginners and experienced riders.
Accessibility: The park will be free to use, with no membership or admission fees required.
Funding And Construction
The total cost of the project is estimated at $1.2 million. In addition to the provincial grant, funding has also come from the City of Edmonton ($407,000) and private sponsorships and donations ($177,000). Construction is expected to begin this year, with the park anticipated to open in spring or summer 2026.
Impact on the Community
The new park is expected to enhance Edmonton’s cycling culture, promote recreation, and attract visitors from outside the city. It will serve as a hub for events and training, further boosting local tourism and economic growth. The EMBA is also planning to establish a reserve fund for ongoing maintenance to ensure the park remains a vibrant community asset.
