While winter is winding down, skiing at Palisades Tahoe will continue through April and May, offering spring skiers and snowboarders the chance to enjoy the slopes a little longer. Although the season hasn’t been the deepest Tahoe has seen, the snowfalls have been sufficient to allow for an extended closing date that will please visitors.

Palisades Tahoe, located in California, announced that the resort plans to remain open through Memorial Day, May 26, 2025, weather permitting. This decision follows what has been one of the best snow weeks of the season. In just the past seven days, the resort has received an impressive 59 inches of snow. With an additional storm expected later this week, the resort’s March snowfall total is projected to exceed 70 inches, setting up for an exciting extended spring season.

This announcement comes after a series of dry spells earlier in the winter, particularly in January and February. Despite these setbacks, Palisades Tahoe has accumulated a total of 326 inches of snow for the Winter 24/25 season, with two and a half months still remaining. While the resort’s average annual snowfall of 400 inches is within reach, it will require a couple of major storms to hit that target.

Palisades Tahoe Spring Events Lineup

Palisades Tahoe, calling itself the “Spring Skiing Capital,” has a packed roster of events planned for the spring. These events, which range from casual competitions to fun community gatherings, ensure that spring skiing at the resort is as lively as ever.

Some of the most anticipated events include the Pain McShlonkey Classic, Snow Golf at Alpine Meadows, and The Cushing Crossing. These events are known for their playful atmosphere and are the perfect way to enjoy the tail end of the ski season. Here’s a quick look at the resort’s key spring happenings:

Town Race League (New): This community-focused race league runs on Wednesday afternoons and evenings through April 9, 2025, inviting locals and visitors to compete in friendly races.

Pain McShlonkey Classic: On March 22, 2025, the resort will host the Pain McShlonkey Classic, celebrated on International Snowblade Day. Snowbladers will race down KT-22 in pursuit of the coveted Golden Saucer trophy.

The Mothership Classic: Taking place on March 23, 2025, this fundraiser for the High Fives Foundation challenges participants to complete as many “hot laps” as possible down KT-22.

Toyota U.S. Mogul Freestyle Championships (New): From March 27-30, 2025, top mogul and aerial skiers will compete on the legendary Red Dog Face for national titles.

Snow Golf Tournament: On April 19, 2025, Alpine Meadows will host a 10-hole snow golf course, where skiers and snowboarders can test their skills from the top of the Summit Lift to the Chalet below. Registration is free, and each participant receives a golf club and two tennis balls.

Cushing Crossing: On May 3, 2025, Palisades Tahoe will hold what is claimed to be the world’s first pond skim event. Skiers and snowboarders will attempt to skim across Cushing Pond while dressed in their most creative costumes.

For locals and frequent visitors like myself, these spring events are the highlight of the season. While the fresh powder throughout the winter has been a thrill, the energy and excitement of spring at Palisades Tahoe brings a special kind of joy to the slopes.

Looking forward to seeing everyone out there — and don’t even think about trying to beat me at Snow Golf. Trust me, you won’t!
