The European leg of the surfing competition, though often seen as a major event, is more accurately described by a single contest, and this one didn’t make a great impression.
When the broadcast began this afternoon, rain battered the Supertubos lineup. The rain was clearly visible on the camera lenses, and the microphones picked up the constant tapping against the Atlantic. The broadcast team, bundled up in thick jackets, complained about the possibility of getting wet.
Despite the challenging conditions, the swell started to fill in, as predicted by Surfline. Although predictions can sometimes sound like fiction, this one proved to be accurate.
However, the calm lasted only 20 minutes before the wind kicked in and changed the conditions.
During the brief period of good waves, Jack Robinson displayed his skill, carefully navigating the Supertubos lineup with precision. The waves were intense, with surfer Ian Gentil breaking his board within the first few minutes while the rain continued to fall.
