Zurich: In a historic achievement for Indian snowboarding, two talented snowboarders from Kashmir will represent India at the 2025 World Snowboard Championship.
The prestigious competition will be held at St. Moritz, one of Europe’s top ski resorts, from March 17 to March 30, 2025.
The athletes, Zubair Ahmad Lone and Mehraj Uddin Khan, recently made headlines after winning gold medals at the Khelo Winter Games in Gulmarg. Both snowboarders have earned international recognition in slalom and giant slalom events, proving their outstanding skills on the slopes.
Earlier this month, Zubair Ahmad Lone marked a milestone by winning India’s first-ever gold medal at a competition in Lebanon. Meanwhile, Mehraj Uddin Khan has a strong record, with two bronze medals in slalom and giant slalom at a tournament in Serbia last year.
“It’s fantastic to see Kashmiri snowboarders making an impact on the international stage and bringing medals home for the country,” said Farhat Naik, coach for Team India. “Qualifying for the World Championship is a remarkable achievement and a dream for any athlete. Zubair and Mehraj will have the chance to compete against the best snowboarders from around the world.”
The accomplishments of Zubair and Mehraj not only highlight the rise of snowboarding in India but also serve as an inspiration to young athletes across the country. As they prepare for the championship, all eyes will be on these two promising athletes as they aim to represent India with pride in Switzerland.
