FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The U.S. Pro Cup is set to return to Fayetteville, bringing top mountain bikers to Centennial Park for a week of elite competition.
The event, scheduled for March 19-23, is part of the USA Cycling Cross-Country Mountain Bike National Series. Riders will have the opportunity to earn points toward both national and international rankings.
The competition will feature Olympic-style and short-track cross-country races across both professional and amateur categories. To accommodate the races, several trails at Centennial Park will be closed from March 17-24. These closures will include all sections of the World Cup and Chasing Gold trails, as well as the northeast and east sections of the Fayetteville Traverse. However, trails like Learners Permit and Pop Rocks will remain open for use.
Spectators can access the event via the paved trail from S. Mount Millsap Lane off Old Farmington Road or from the Fayetteville Traverse trail, which is accessible from S. Dinsmore Trail Road off Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
In February 2019, Fayetteville was selected to host the 2022 Cyclo-Cross World Championships. The park is also one of the 14 global qualifying sites for the annual event.
