BEND, Ore. – The Babson College women’s alpine ski team earned a third-place finish in the giant slalom at the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Championship at Mount Bachelor on Tuesday afternoon. Four Babson skiers finished in the top 23.
The Beavers’ top three finishers completed their two runs in 6:38.30, finishing just over 17 seconds behind first-place Rocky Mountain (6:21.11) and 14 seconds behind second-place Castleton. Clarkson, a fellow league opponent, finished just 0.17 seconds behind Babson in fourth, with Northeastern rounding out the top five.
Babson’s third-place finish equals the team’s best performance in the giant slalom at nationals since 2016, matching the 2022 team’s achievement.
First-year skater Camryn Knowlton (Montreal, Quebec) led the Beavers in 17th place with a time of 2:12.36. Senior Amelie Alkier (Collingwood, Ontario) moved up five spots after her first run to place 18th with a time of 2:12.74. Sophomore Sonnie Travis (Park City, Utah) improved by nearly three seconds on her second run, finishing in 22nd place with a time of 2:13.20.
Sophomore Julia Wiacek (Little Neck, N.Y.) was just 0.22 seconds behind Travis in 23rd place with a time of 2:13.42. Senior Alli Messier (Sherborn, Mass.) finished 39th with a two-run time of 2:18.39.
The Babson team will compete again at Mount Bachelor in the slalom on Thursday, starting at 12 p.m. EDT.
