Montana State senior Kate Oldham earned All-America honors with a strong performance at the 72nd Annual NCAA Skiing Championships on Thursday at Oak Hills Outdoor Center.

Despite a challenging travel schedule, Oldham finished seventh in the 7.5K classic race with a time of 24:46.5, securing Second Team All-America status.

Oldham, who recently raced in the World Cup overseas after winning the 2025 U.S. Cross Country Freestyle title in January, faced tough conditions but delivered an impressive result.

Utah’s Erica Laven claimed the classic title with a time of 23:43.3.

“We’re thrilled that Kate earned her second NCAA All-American honor,” said MSU head Nordic coach Adam St. Pierre. “She raced at the World Championships in Norway, traveled to New Hampshire, and still managed a strong finish despite feeling flat in difficult conditions.”

Oldham, from Carbondale, Colorado, was a First Team All-American last year after placing fifth in freestyle at the NCAA Championships in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

Alongside Oldham, Montana State also saw contributions from Anna Pryce, who finished 26th with a time of 26:13.8, and Katey Houser, who placed 33rd in 26:42.4.

The Bobcat men’s Nordic team was led by freshman Grey Barbier, who placed 34th in 24:25.2, and Gavin Galyardt, who finished 38th in 25:42.8. Both were making their first appearances at the NCAA Championships. Dartmouth’s John Steel Hagenbuch won the men’s classic title with a time of 20:52.8.

“It was a tough day for everyone,” St. Pierre said. “The warm, wet conditions made for slow snow and difficult ski preparation. All of our Nordic athletes felt flat, which is common after traveling to sea level. We’ll regroup, have a good workout tomorrow, and be ready for Saturday’s races.”

Host school Dartmouth dominated both the men’s and women’s Nordic races, moving to the top of the team standings with 267.5 points. At the halfway point of the championships, Dartmouth leads, followed by Colorado (262), Utah (257), Vermont (208), Denver (161), Alaska Anchorage (144), Middlebury (120), New Hampshire (117), Colby (90), and Montana State (81).

The alpine giant slalom events will begin on Friday at 7 a.m. (MT) at Dartmouth Skiway.

“Our alpine teammates have been great in supporting us,” St. Pierre said. “We’re looking forward to cheering them on during their GS races after our workout tomorrow.”
