The VISA FIS Snowboard Alpine World Cup returned to Val Saint Come for a thrilling Parallel Giant Slalom (PGS) race, where athletes faced challenging conditions due to heavy snowfall, with 20cm accumulating throughout the day. In the end, it was a German sweep, as Ramona Theresia Hofmeister claimed another victory, while her teammate Elias Huber secured his first World Cup win.
Hofmeister Triumphs Despite Tough Conditions
Ramona Theresia Hofmeister proved her resilience, securing a commanding victory after battling through difficult conditions. The defending champion claimed her second win of the weekend, adding to her impressive record.
The final was a dramatic showdown between Hofmeister and former overall champion Julie Zogg of Switzerland. The two were neck-and-neck until Zogg fell on a tight gate. Hofmeister also stumbled but managed to stay upright after a 180-degree turn. She quickly regained her momentum and powered through to the win. This victory marks Hofmeister’s fifth win in the last six races, a remarkable recovery after a tough start to the season. It was her 24th career World Cup victory.
For Zogg, the race ended with her third podium finish of the season. She dedicated her performance to her late teammate, Sophie Hediger, a snowboard cross athlete who tragically died in an avalanche last December.
Semifinal Showdown: Hofmeister Edges Out Miki
In one of the day’s most exciting matchups, Hofmeister faced Japan’s Tsubaki Miki in the semifinals. Miki, who has been dominating the season, was narrowly defeated by Hofmeister, who triumphed by just 0.33 seconds in a tight race. This victory allowed Hofmeister to advance to the final, where she ultimately secured the top spot.
Hofmeister’s performance in Val St. Come was a statement of her unwavering strength and skill, as she continues to dominate the World Cup circuit.
