The Belco Bowl Jam, a prestigious event established in 2001, is Australia’s longest-running vertical skateboarding competition. It attracts top skateboarders from around the globe to the iconic bowl in Canberra each year.
This year’s competition featured skate contests, cash-for-tricks challenges, local side missions, live concerts, and a world premiere of Monster Energy’s latest skate video, “Down Straight Up Vol. 3.”
As the defending champion, Schaar entered Saturday’s Men’s Skateboard Bowl final as the rider to watch. His flawless performance included impressive tricks such as a backside melon 540 over the channel, alley-oop backside lipslide revert, frontside blunt, and a backside tailgrab 540. Schaar’s strong showing earned him the title of King of Belco and an honorary pirate’s hat in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
“This is the best freaking event! Love you guys!” Schaar said, celebrating his victory.
On Friday, Schaar triumphed in the Crusher Ramp Jam mini ramp competition, where he nailed tricks like a frontside blunt off the vertical extension. His standout trick earned him the best trick award, worth $250.
Arisa Trew, another Monster Army rider, showcased her technical prowess in the Women’s Skateboard Bowl final. Trew impressed with a series of dynamic moves, including a frontside 50-50 pop over the channel, McTwist, backside lipslide, and her signature switch McTwist. Her performance earned her the title Queen of Belco for the second year in a row.
