LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Louisville residents will soon have a convenient location for mountain biking without having to leave the city.

During his weekly news briefing on Tuesday morning, Mayor Craig Greenberg unveiled plans for the Highland Park Bike Park, along with the first concept renderings of the project.

The park will be situated beneath the Watterson Expressway on Park Boulevard, near Crittenden Drive at Highland Park. Greenberg explained that the area, which was previously littered with trash and considered unsafe, will be transformed into a safe, clean space for the community. In a Facebook post, he emphasized the goal of collaborating with local partners to revitalize neglected areas of the city.

The new park will feature a mountain bike skills area, designed with four distinct zones catering to bikers of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced riders.

“This park is a place for people to connect, make new friends, and pursue their passion,” said Derek Fetco of the Kentucky Mountain Bike Association. “It’s also a great opportunity for families to spend time together.”

Greenberg added that the park will eventually host mountain biking events, attracting visitors from outside Louisville.

The concept for the park is expected to be finalized this spring, and construction is estimated to take around a year to complete. Residents can track the project’s progress on the Highland Park Bike Park Facebook page.

On Tuesday evening, the public had the opportunity to provide feedback, share ideas, and ask questions about the park proposal during a meeting at the Beechmont Community Center on West Wellington Avenue.
