HARBIN, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) – Zhang Xiaonan of China claimed the gold medal in the women’s snowboard slopestyle event at the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, showcasing a flawless performance in Yabuli on Saturday.
The 18-year-old snowboarder consistently improved throughout her three runs. Zhang took an early lead with 80.75 points in her first attempt, followed by a strong 88.75 in the second round. She sealed her victory with a near-perfect final run, scoring 95.25 points to secure the top spot.
“I was a bit nervous before my final run. One of the tricks I added was a 900-degree spin off the first jump. Despite the strong wind, the course itself was in good condition,” Zhang shared.
“This gold means a lot to me, especially as it’s my first Asian Winter Games. I’m very happy with my performance since my goal coming in was to win,” she added. “I will also compete in the big air event and I’ll give it my all for another gold.”
China’s Xiong Shirui took the silver medal with a score of 75.25, while Japan’s 15-year-old Himari Ishii secured the bronze with a score of 69.50.
Zhang’s victory marked a memorable moment for Chinese snowboarding at the games, with the athlete now aiming for even more success in the upcoming events.
