Wanaka’s Zoi Sadowski-Synnott, 23, reclaimed her position at the top of women’s snowboarding with a dominant performance at the Snowboard Big Air World Cup in Aspen. This victory marks her first World Cup win in the Big Air event since 2023.
Sadowski-Synnott navigated challenging warm and windy conditions with a strategic approach, landing her top-scoring tricks on her initial two attempts. “I actually can’t believe it,” Sadowski-Synnott said, acknowledging the difficulty of the conditions with the landing and the soft, bumpy run-in. “To put those first two [tricks] down was kind of playing tactics, but I am stoked,” she added.
Her first run featured a switch backside double-corked 1260 with a weddle grab, earning her the highest single jump score of the day at 89.00 and an early lead. She then executed a backside double drunk driver grab (both hands on the board) on her second run, solidifying her lead by two points over Japan’s Kokomo Murase.
With Murase unable to improve on her final run, Sadowski-Synnott secured the win, taking a victory lap to celebrate her return to the top of the podium in the women’s snowboarding big air. Momo Suzuki, also of Japan, finished third.
After missing much of the 2024 season due to an ankle injury, Sadowski-Synnott has made a strong comeback in recent weeks. Her recent achievements include two X Games medals (gold and bronze) and two World Cup wins.
The Aspen event concluded the 2025 FIS Big Air World Cup Tour. The FIS Snowboard Slopestyle World Cup circuit is set to resume on February 18 in Calgary, Canada.
