Mountain bikers are gearing up for the return of the Borderland Mountain Bike Challenge, set for Saturday, May 10, at 10 a.m.

Organized by the Borderland Rotary Club, the event began in 1994 as a fun ride to raise funds for local charities. Since then, it has grown into a major event, drawing hundreds of enthusiastic riders.

“I still love to see hundreds of mountain bikers heading into the Berwyn Mountains while raising thousands of pounds for charity,” said the event organizer. “Thanks to sponsors like Tim Gray from Dairi-Pak and Mule Cycles from Oswestry, we’ve been able to make regular annual donations to charities like Air Ambulance, in addition to supporting many local causes.”

The 22-mile challenge will take participants along green lanes, farm tracks, and private land, weaving through the foothills of the Berwyn Mountains. While the course is designed for riders of all skill levels, organizers caution that it is “not for the faint-hearted” due to its minimal tarmac and mostly rugged terrain.

“Why not get a team together?” the organizer encouraged. “Talk to your colleagues, your boss, or if you are the boss, rally your staff. It’s for a great cause, and it’s going to be fun. All you need is a bike, a helmet, and the heart of a lion.”

This year’s challenge promises another exciting opportunity to raise funds for charity while enjoying a thrilling ride through scenic landscapes.
