Contest director Liam McNamara confirmed that organizers are closely monitoring conditions at Waimea Bay, where a large swell is expected to arrive soon.
Event Status And Requirements
The “yellow alert” indicates that a significant swell could arrive within the next 5 to 7 days. A final decision on whether to proceed with the event will be made by Friday, with a shift to “green” signaling the competition will happen within the next 2 to 3 days.
For the event to be called, wave faces must consistently reach at least 20 feet. The ideal conditions, however, would feature waves of 40 feet or higher. The competition window runs from December 14, 2024, to March 13, 2025.
