The Summit at Snoqualmie will officially open its ski season on Tuesday, following another weekend of heavy snow. This marks the full opening of all Washington Cascade ski areas ahead of the busy Christmas week.
The snow base at Summit West has doubled over the weekend, now reaching 29 inches, making it ready for the first lifts to run. Summit West is traditionally the first of the four zones at The Summit to open for the season.
While Summit Central and Alpental are still being assessed by ski patrollers, they are expected to open later in the season. Summit East and the Summit Nordic Center are set to open on December 26. Meanwhile, the ski area’s tubing park opened on Friday.
Tuesday’s opening will be limited to Summit and Ikon passholders, with the general public gaining access starting Wednesday. Four lifts are scheduled to operate on opening day: Pacific Crest, Little Thunder, Julies, and Dodge Ridge. The resort has not yet announced a grand opening for the newly installed Wildside chair.
While the fresh snow is exciting for Seattle-area skiers and snowboarders, resort officials warn to remain cautious. The mountain still has brush, rocks, creeks, and other potential hazards.
“We’ve got to talk about some realism here at the start of the season,” said General Manager Guy Lawrence in an Instagram post. “Typical low tide conditions — take it easy.”
