A new Flagstaff Pumptrack has officially opened in St Helens, located on Tasmania’s East Coast, offering a dedicated space for BMX riders, scooter enthusiasts, and skateboarders.

Deputy Premier Guy Barnett announced that the state government invested $500,000 in the construction of the facility. Barnett, an avid cyclist himself, emphasized the physical and mental health benefits of cycling. “Cycling is not only about fitness but also about mental well-being and connecting with your community,” he said. “This new pumptrack will give newcomers the opportunity to build their cycling skills and confidence in a safe and controlled environment before progressing to more challenging mountain bike trails.”

The track, which is suitable for BMX bikes, scooters, skateboards, and mountain bikes, aims to serve a broad range of riders. Break O’Day Mayor Mick Tucker welcomed the addition to the town, noting its potential to encourage outdoor activity. “The pumptrack means kids will spend less time on their devices and families will enjoy more time together outdoors,” Tucker said.

The Flagstaff Pumptrack was built by World Trail, a well-known track construction company, and is conveniently located near St Helens’ popular mountain bike trails.
