A Newport-based company has pledged its support to a local surfing charity aimed at helping young people with mental health challenges.

Vectis Refrigeration has become a member of the Wave Project’s Surf Therapy Business Alliance, a partnership designed to fund surf courses for young individuals facing mental health issues.

Will Overton, director of Vectis Refrigeration, shared his personal connection to the cause. “I’ve been sailing and windsurfing all my life, and the sea has always been a place of healing and reflection for me. I know how beneficial the ocean can be for mental well-being, so supporting this cause is something that really resonates with me,” Overton explained.

He emphasized the importance of giving back to the community. “This charity offers real opportunities for young people, and I believe it can have a positive impact on their lives. If I can use my business to help generate more support, then I’m more than happy to do so.”

The Wave Project runs a six-week surf therapy course designed to boost confidence and teach life skills. Since its pilot program launched on the Isle of Wight in 2015, the charity has helped over 500 local children.
