Capes region junior surfers have made an impressive start at the 2024 Australian Junior Surfing Titles in Wollongong, New South Wales. The event, which began on November 25, will run through December 1 and features over 250 of the country’s top young surfers competing for the chance to represent the Irukandjis Team at the 2025 ISA World Junior Surfing Championship.
Ideal Conditions for Competition
The competition kicked off with perfect conditions, including clean three-foot waves at Woonona Beach. Contest Director Jeremy Barnett commended the favorable weather, noting light northeast winds that contributed to an outstanding day of surfing. These ideal conditions allowed junior surfers to showcase their skills, with strong performances across various divisions.
Standout Performances
The opening days saw several Capes region surfers deliver remarkable results. Lachlan Arghyros, competing in the Under 16 Men’s division, and Rosie Richardson in the Under 16 Women’s division both posted impressive scores, each earning 7.13 points.
In the Under 14 Girls division, Evie Wilson from the Sunshine Coast excelled in her first competition at Woonona Beach, winning her heat and praising the fun waves and excellent conditions.
Kade Kelly, from Newcastle, also made his mark in the Under 14 Boys division. He expressed his desire to win an Australian Junior Surfing Title, highlighting the competitive spirit of the event.
These performances not only highlight the individual talent of the surfers but also underscore the strength of the Capes region’s junior surfing community.
