Four surfers from Devon and Cornwall have played a key role in helping Team England secure a seventh-place finish at the World Para Surfing Championships. The 9th ISA World Para Surfing Championships took place at Huntington Beach, California, featuring over 150 para surfers from 24 countries.
The English team included Charlotte Banfield from Truro, James Price from Torquay, and Braunton residents Suzanne Edwards and Harlum Lewis. Banfield achieved remarkable success by winning her second consecutive world title in the Stand 3 category. Edwards also performed well, finishing fourth in the prone (non-assist) division.
James Price, who only began surfing in May, expressed his excitement about riding some of the largest waves he has ever encountered during the competition. Harlum Lewis participated in his second world championship and delivered a strong performance as well.
The rest of the English squad included Hannah Dines from Manchester, Laurie Foti from Australia, Zoe Smith from Bournemouth, David Lewis from Hampshire, Mark Hagger from Bournemouth, and Spike Kane from California.
This year’s championships highlighted the incredible talent and determination of para surfers worldwide. The event attracted significant attention and showcased the athletes’ skills in challenging conditions.
