Jones Snowboards Expands Re-Up™ Program to Include Trade-In and Resale Options

In a move to enhance sustainability in snowboarding, Geartrade has joined forces with Jones Snowboards to expand the Re-Up™ program, now offering a comprehensive trade-in and resale option for used snowboards. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between recycling old boards and purchasing brand new equipment.

Originally launched in October 2023, the Re-Up™ program utilizes innovative Re-Up Tech, allowing Jones to recycle snowboards from any brand and repurpose 95% of the materials into new boards. Since its inception, the program has successfully recycled over 3,000 retired snowboards from riders, dealers, and resorts.

This fall, Jones will build on this foundation by introducing a full-service trade-in and resale program, powered by Geartrade. The new offering encourages snowboarders to trade in their used Jones boards in exchange for credit toward the purchase of new gear. Additionally, Geartrade will cover shipping costs to send boards to their facilities.

Credit amounts will vary based on the age, condition, and model of the traded-in board. Boards deemed too damaged for resale will still earn a lesser credit before being recycled through the Re-Up™ program.

Operating from Salt Lake City, Geartrade will manage all logistics for the Re-Up initiative, including product evaluation, refurbishment, warehousing, order fulfillment, and customer service.

“We recognized the Re-Up program’s potential to keep snowboards out of landfills but faced challenges managing logistics while focusing on our core business,” said Jen McVey, General Manager of Nidecker Americas. “Geartrade brought the hardgoods resale experience we needed, streamlining processes from refurbishing boards to managing customer relationships.”

Geartrade supports numerous outdoor brands in their sustainability efforts by creating tailored resale systems for various hardgoods categories, including skis and camping equipment. Their expertise has been instrumental in the development of the expanded Re-Up program.

The new Geartrade-powered Re-Up trade-in and resale program is currently available only to Jones customers in the United States. International customers can still participate in the broader recycling initiative. With over seven million active snowboarders in the U.S., both Jones and Geartrade are excited to offer this new option, promoting sustainability and providing riders an affordable pathway to upgrade their gear or try a Jones board for the first time.
