India Shines with Silver at 2024 Asian Surfing Championships, Secures 2026 Asian Games Spots

In a standout performance at the 2024 Asian Surfing Championships in the Maldives, the Indian surfing team clinched a silver medal in the team event. The quartet of Kamali P, Ajeesh Ali, Srikanth D, and Sanjay Selvamani excelled in the Maruhaba Cup, finishing with a total score of 24.13. This impressive showing earned them the second spot on the podium, behind Japan, who took gold with a commanding score of 58.40. Chinese Taipei secured the bronze with a score of 23.93.

The Indian team’s journey to the finals was marked by a dominant performance in their heat semi-final, where they topped the standings with a score of 32.16. Chinese Taipei and South Korea followed in second and third places, respectively.

In addition to their podium finish, the Indian surf team achieved another significant milestone by securing quotas for the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. This qualification was based on their ranking points accumulated during the Championships, which served as a crucial qualifier for the upcoming Games. A total of eight Indian surfers competed in four different categories during the event.

Highlighting individual performances, Kishore Kumar made a notable impact in the Under-18 boys’ category. His strong showing, including a third-place finish in his semi-final heat, contributed valuable points to India’s overall tally and played a key role in securing the team’s qualification for the 2026 Games.
