A bungee jumping experience turned tragic at a South Korean mall when a woman in her 60s suffered a fatal fall from a height of eight meters, according to reports. The incident occurred at the Starfield Anseong Mall in Gyeonggi province, where the unidentified woman fell onto a concrete floor after attempting the jump.
The accident took place on 26 February at approximately 4:27 PM local time, as reported by Yonhap news agency. The Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police have stated that the cause of the fall appears to be a defective carabiner clip, which failed to secure the bungee cord properly to the platform.
Despite wearing safety gear, the woman’s fall was unimpeded due to the improperly secured carabiner. Emergency responders rushed her to a nearby hospital, where doctors made efforts to resuscitate her. Tragically, she was pronounced dead an hour after the fall.
The incident has prompted an investigation by local authorities, who are scrutinizing the safety protocols at the sports facility within the mall, which also offers activities like climbing. More details are expected to emerge as the investigation continues.
