Jonny Davies, a 32-year-old stunt rider from Peterlee, County Durham, is making headlines with his audacious attempt to set a new world record for the ‘Fastest speed dragged behind a motorcycle.’ In this thrilling endeavor, Davies is essentially ‘skiing’ behind a motorcycle at speeds exceeding 160 mph.
Davies is no stranger to extreme stunts and record-breaking feats. He first etched his name into the record books in 2020 with the ‘Fastest motorcycle handlebar wheelie,’ achieving a remarkable speed of 109 mph while perched atop the bike’s handlebars and pulling off a wheelie. Two years later, in 2022, he set another record for the ‘Most donuts (spins) by a car around a motorcycle performing a wheelie in one minute,’ partnering with Paul Swift to complete 10 spins at The British Motor Show.
For his latest record attempt, Davies will be riding a specially modified Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX, a motorcycle renowned for its exceptional speed and stability. The attempt is set to take place later this month on a yet-to-be-disclosed runway.
The stunt involves Davies accelerating the bike before dismounting from it. He will be equipped with custom-made titanium ‘skis’ attached to his motorcycle boots, which create spectacular sparks but offer minimal grip. Additionally, his bike has been specially adapted with a secondary throttle, allowing him to maintain speed while he ‘skis’ behind it.
Davies conducted a practice run at Elvington Airfield near York on Monday, August 5, in preparation for the main event.
