In a remarkable display of athleticism and skill, Japan has once again secured gold in Women’s Street Skateboarding at the 2024 Paris Olympics. For the second consecutive Games, the Japanese team has taken the top honor, thanks to the stunning performance of 14-year-old Coco Yoshizawa. Yoshizawa dazzled the judges and spectators alike with a jaw-dropping big flip frontside boardslide down a daunting 10-stair set, followed by a flawless hurricane grind on the rail. Her outstanding performance earned her a gold medal with a score of 272.75 points.
Close behind Yoshizawa, her compatriot Liz Akama clinched the silver medal with a commendable score of 265.95 points. The bronze was awarded to Brazil’s Rayssa Leal, who finished with 253.37 points.
The inaugural Skateboarding event in Paris lived up to expectations, offering an exhilarating spectacle for fans and a challenging contest for competitors. Of the 22 skaters who initially qualified, only eight advanced to the finals held on Sunday, July 28, where Yoshizawa emerged victorious.
Notably, Tokyo 2020 gold medalist Momiji Nishiya from Japan did not participate in the 2024 Games. Nishiya did not qualify due to the superior rankings of three other Japanese skaters in the global standings.
