HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — Zignature, a premium dog food brand by Pets Global, Inc., renowned for its limited-ingredient formulas, has announced its title sponsorship of the K-9 Skate Academy’s first annual World K9 Sk8 Competition. This X Games-style event, set to take place on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at McKenna Volkswagen of Huntington Beach, California, will showcase skateboarding dogs and include a Guinness World Record attempt.
The pioneering event, open to the public, aims to support local dog rescue organizations. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Chunkz and Tubz Rescue Foundation, focused on English Bulldogs, and Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue, which runs the Pawsitive Change program that partners incarcerated individuals with at-risk shelter dogs in California.
“We knew we had to be involved when we heard about this event,” said Ellie Mosser, Community Relations Specialist at Pets Global. “Not only is this an amazing way to support local rescues, but it’s also such a unique and cool concept. Skateboarding dogs? For charity? Who wouldn’t want to be a part of this?”
Ryan Lynch, founder of the SoCal-based K-9 Skate Academy, along with his skateboarding bulldog Henny, expressed enthusiasm for the event’s potential to unite a global skateboarding community he has cultivated over the years.
“This event was created to have my dog, Skateboard Henny, live on forever and bring her and my passion for skating dogs to enthusiasts around the world,” said Lynch.
The first annual World K9 Sk8 Competition will feature a judged freestyle skateboarding contest for dogs, a relay race, and designated time for community skaters and BMX bikers. The event will also include food, artists, live music, and multiple vendors from the local area, skateboarding industry, and pet industry.
