Three-Day Mountain Biking Extravaganza Draws Enthusiasts from Across the Nation
Bike Bash WV wrapped up its annual event on Sunday, concluding three days of biking fun at Big Bear Lake. This weekend saw mountain bike enthusiasts from 17 states camping out at the lake, engaging with vendors, learning biking tips, and exploring the 50 miles of trails available at the venue. According to event organizers, approximately 800 people attended this year’s event.
Annie Simcoe, Co-Director of Bike Bash WV, shared that she and her husband have been organizing the event for the past four years, taking over from Dirt Magazine. Simcoe, a passionate mountain biker, expressed her admiration for the challenging terrain of West Virginia.
“I love the challenge of our technical terrain here where sometimes there’s a section of the trail that might be a little too hard for me today, and I might make it on the next ride or maybe not,” Simcoe said. “I love coming back for that challenge.”
Big Bear Lake, being privately owned, does not receive public funding for its trail system. Events like Bike Bash WV are crucial for its financial support.
Launched in 2021, Bike Bash WV is set to return next year, two weekends after the Fourth of July.
