Amy Sloane, a resident of NSW’s Caves Beach, expressed outrage after receiving a $136 fine from her local council for a five-minute stop at The Esplanade. Sloane claimed she had stopped only to assess surf conditions on July 6 and was surprised to receive the fine weeks later.

In an interview with Yahoo News, Sloane criticized the council, questioning the justification of the fine. “How do I feel? Pissed off,” she remarked, highlighting her frustration with what she perceives as selective enforcement. She contrasted the swift action taken against her brief stop with what she sees as lax enforcement on other issues like dog waste on beaches.

Sloane labeled the council workers as “cowards,” defending the common use of the area by locals and tourists alike to observe surf conditions or even watch for whales during migration seasons.

The incident has sparked debate over council policies and enforcement practices in recreational areas frequented by the public.
