Former Isle of Wight surfer Jago Tasker is gearing up to represent England at EuroSurf 2024 in Portugal, set to commence this week.

Having honed his skills in Freshwater until December 2022, Jago first took to the waves at the age of eight on the Isle of Wight, participating in ‘Nipper Sessions’ through the iSurf school in Sandown.

Reflecting on Jago’s early passion for surfing, his mother Sarah shared with the County Press last month, “If there were waves, he would be there. Before school, after school, even from primary school!”

Jago’s competitive journey gained momentum when he competed in the English Interclub Surfing Championships at Fistral Beach in Newquay, where he now holds membership with the Boardriders Surf Club.

Earlier this year, Jago made waves internationally as part of the U16s squad at the International Surfing Association World Junior Championship in El Salvador, showcasing his talent in May.

His selection to represent England at EuroSurf 2024 marks another milestone in his burgeoning career. Expressing his excitement, Jago remarked, “I’m thrilled to represent England and join the U16 team at this competition. It’s an incredible opportunity.”

To support his participation, Jago’s parents initiated a successful GoFundMe campaign, swiftly raising £1,000 to cover travel expenses, accommodation, coaching, equipment, and insurance within just four days.

Sarah expressed her delight at achieving the fundraising target, calling it “fantastic” and “absolutely unbelievable.”
