The Webster Water Ski Collective is set to host a complimentary water skiing clinic for veterans at Lake Quinsigamond on Wednesday. This initiative is one of 14 nationwide events dedicated to veterans, aimed at enhancing their independence and overall quality of life. The event is held in partnership with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Established in 2019, the Webster Water Ski Collective is a USA Water Ski-affiliated club. In 2020, it introduced an adaptive ski program, making it the only organization in Massachusetts that includes disabled community members.
“It’s 100% free for veterans and it’s aimed at improving their well-being and quality of life through water skiing,” stated Ryan DesRoches, director of adaptive skiing at the collective.

Time: 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Location: Donahue Rowing Center, Lake Quinsigamond
The clinic offers water ski lessons for veterans and caters to those with physical or cognitive injuries. DesRoches noted that many participants suffer from PTSD or other physical or cognitive challenges. “Our mission at Webster Water Ski Collective is to make water skiing accessible to everyone, regardless of age or ability,” he said.
This marks the collective’s fifth year of hosting adaptive water skiing lessons. “Adaptive skiing means making skiing adaptable for people with various disabilities,” DesRoches explained. “We start with the safest equipment, which includes outriggers to prevent tipping. Once participants feel comfortable, we can remove the outriggers.”
Goals and Registration The primary aim is to empower veterans and service members, promoting their independence through engaging in water skiing. In addition to lessons, food will be provided. Due to limited space, veterans are encouraged to register on the USA Water Ski’s veterans site.
“Our No. 1 goal is to ensure they have a great time,” DesRoches emphasized. “We want them to enjoy a fantastic day on the water with their peers, boosting their confidence and independence.”
For veterans looking to participate in this enriching experience, early registration is highly recommended.
