Mt Buller, Victoria, is gearing up for an unforgettable celebration this weekend, marking a century since the first skiers carved the slopes.
On July 6, 1924, seven pioneering members of the Ski Club of Victoria made history with their inaugural runs down Mt Buller’s snowy peaks.
To honor this milestone, a full day and night of festivities await visitors. From 8:30 am, eight lifts will whisk enthusiasts to a groomed snow cover of about 40cm, including the iconic Summit Run and Skyline trails. The excitement continues into the evening with twilight skiing sessions until 9pm, offering a unique under-light experience.
Guests are encouraged to embrace the occasion by donning vintage ski attire or even high-visibility and glow-in-the-dark gear after sunset. The village will buzz with activities such as firepit gatherings, live music, face painting, and a ‘through the decades’ fashion parade showcasing snow attire through time.
At 6pm, Bourke Street will glow with a torchlit descent, featuring 100 skiers guided by bright torches, a tradition led by the Ski Club of Victoria and supported by the Ski & Snowboard School. The descent culminates in a dazzling fireworks display, best viewed along the Bourke Street ski run.
Shuttle buses will run late into the evening, ensuring convenient access for all attendees. Buller Ski Lifts confirms extended winter operations, including lessons, hospitality venues, toboggan slopes, and snowplay zones, promising an immersive celebration of Mt Buller’s rich skiing heritage.
This weekend promises not only to celebrate a century of skiing but to create lasting memories for all who join in the festivities at Mt Buller.
