Bartlett man dies after going off trail near summit.
JACKSON, N.H. — A skier from Bartlett, New Hampshire, died Sunday evening after veering off a trail near the summit of Black Mountain Ski Area, according to local authorities.
The Jackson Police Department reported that officers were called to the ski area shortly before 6 p.m. in response to a report of a seriously injured skier.
Emergency personnel from the mountain’s ski patrol located the man near the edge of the Upper Maple Slalom trail. He was found unresponsive on the left side of the trail, just at the snow line. First responders performed life-saving efforts on the scene and continued treatment in the ambulance at the base of the mountain. Despite these efforts, the skier was later pronounced dead.
The skier was identified as 39-year-old Eric Page, a resident of Bartlett.
Police said no witnesses saw the exact moment of the accident. Another skier passing by discovered Page in the snow and called for assistance.
Black Mountain’s General Manager Erik Mogensen issued a statement Monday morning expressing condolences.
“The entire Black Mountain community is deeply saddened by this tragic accident. I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the individual’s friends and family, the Black Mountain community, and all who have been affected by this loss,” Mogensen said.
This incident follows another recent tragedy in the region. Just weeks earlier, a snowboarder died at Sugarloaf in Maine after attempting to walk down a closed, icy trail to retrieve an item dropped from a chairlift.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Page’s accident.
