Hartman Rocks Recreation Area, a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, has officially reopened for the 2025 season as of April 9. Located just south of Gunnison, Colorado, this expansive site offers over 14,000 acres of public land managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), as well as an additional 140 acres overseen by the City of Gunnison and the surrounding county.

The area is renowned for its variety of recreational activities, with 45 miles of singletrack trails for mountain bikers, numerous rock climbing crags, and 50 campsites. Hartman Rocks attracts hikers, climbers, and bikers alike, making it a prime spot for outdoor adventures.

Following some essential trail maintenance and the drying of muddy roads, the area is once again ready to welcome visitors.

However, some trails may still be closed temporarily due to lingering snow or mud.

“We’re excited to get back out there and enjoy some local dirt,” said a reopening announcement from Gunnison Trails.

“Please be respectful of other trail users and enjoy the outdoors!”

Seth Boster of the Gazette recently highlighted the area, referring to Hartman Rocks as a “singletrack feast” due to its wealth of high-quality mountain biking trails.
