BEND, Ore. – The Babson College men’s alpine ski team finished second in the giant slalom at the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Championships on Wednesday at Mount Bachelor.
Sophomore Mads Fondevik Syversen (Oslo, Norway) and junior Elliot Perretta (Annecy, France) both earned top-five finishes, contributing to Babson’s strong performance. The team completed the race in 6:17.66, just over two seconds behind first-place Rocky Mountain and more than 14 seconds ahead of third-place Northern Michigan. Clarkson and Connecticut, Babson’s MacConnell Division rivals, finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
This marks Babson’s best result at the USCSA National Championships in the past 12 years. The Beavers previously finished third in 2020 and 2022 and fourth in 2013.
Syversen delivered a standout performance, recording the fastest second run among 101 skiers with a time of 1:02.42. His two-run total of 2:04.06 placed him second overall, just 0.21 seconds behind Rocky Mountain’s Jules Clerice. This marks the best national finish by a Babson skier in the past decade.
Perretta, who was in second place after his first run, finished fourth overall with a total time of 2:05.35, 1.50 seconds behind Clerice. Freshman James Rosenbloom (Stowe, Vt.) also earned All-America honors with a 13th-place finish in 2:08.25. Senior Zach Carpenter (Boulder, Colo.) placed 17th with a time of 2:09.58.
The Babson team will return to Mount Bachelor on Friday for the slalom event, which begins at 12 p.m. ET.
