LORNE, VIC – Over 200 women and girls will gather on Gadubanud Country this weekend for the inaugural Great Ocean Road Women’s Surf Fest, presented by Ghanda. The event, taking place on the Lorne Foreshore, aims to celebrate and empower women in surfing.
The festival is an inclusive celebration of women’s surfing, offering something for surfers of all levels and backgrounds. It is designed to bring together individuals who share a passion for surfing and the ocean.
“We are thrilled to host the first-ever Great Ocean Road Women’s Surf Fest this weekend,” said Elley Harrison, General Manager of Surfing Victoria. “The festival will offer a wide range of activities, including free surf lessons, market stalls, workshops, and surf competitions. We encourage women and girls from all over the state to come along and join us for what promises to be a fun weekend in Lorne.”
The festival will feature a variety of activities, with key highlights including surfing workshops and an exciting evening of entertainment at the Lorne Cinema. Each day will begin with Beach Yoga sessions, led by local surf camp provider Honu Honi Surf Camps. A series of insightful workshops will follow, covering topics such as “Communication in the Water,” “Surf Forecasting,” and the impact of the hormone cycle on surfing and overall sports performance.
On Saturday evening, the Lorne Cinema will host a live podcast recording of Waterpeople, featuring 10-time Bells Beach Champion and local legend Gail Couper. The podcast will explore Gail’s life and journey as a surfer.
Following the interview, the festival will screen BELINDA, a documentary about surfer and environmentalist Belinda Baggs, followed by a Q&A session with Belinda herself.
