Perak is set to become a hub for elite extreme sports teams as it prepares to host the Lenggong Ironbound Expedition A1 Asia World Cup 2024 from November 22 to 25.

Championship director Shamsuri Abd Latif announced that this year’s tournament, now in its 13th edition, will introduce new elements to attract more international participants.

He stated that the championship is officially included on the A1 Nationwide (Australia) international calendar and has received approval from the World Obstacle Federation (FISO), based in the United States.

“Malaysia has been honored with the opportunity to host the A1 Asia World Cup series after the European and Oceania stages, making this the third stage in Asia,” he said during a press conference in Ipoh, Perak.

Shamsuri added that the winning team at the Lenggong event will automatically qualify for the A1 World Cup Final 2025, which is scheduled to take place in France next August.

Also present at the press conference was Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, who is also the MP for Lenggong.

Shamsuri noted that this championship, organized by the Malaysia Orienteering Academy, is being held in Lenggong for the third time. The competition features a 48-hour non-stop team race with four members per team. Over 30 teams have already registered to participate.

The event will include various activities such as orienteering, mountain biking, kayaking, rafting, high ropes challenges, cave exploration, trail running, and jungle trekking. Participants will navigate using maps and compasses.

Countries confirmed to participate include the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the Philippines, India, the United Kingdom, and Malaysia.

Shamsul Anuar emphasized that the success of this event would enhance Perak and Malaysia’s reputation while boosting sports tourism in the region.
