Huntington Beach, CA — On Sunday, the usually tranquil shores of Huntington Beach transformed into a playground for canine athletes as the World K9 Sk8 Competition showcased an unprecedented display of skateboarding dogs.
Hosted at McKenna Volkswagen, the event drew crowds eager to witness a unique blend of high-flying tricks and tail-wagging excitement. The festival featured an eclectic mix of entertainment, from dogs mastering the ramps to live music and a variety of food vendors.
Dubbed the “world’s first X-Games style skateboarding competition exclusively for K-9s,” the event was founded by Ryan Lynch and his talented skateboarding bulldog, Henny. Their mission was to unite a community of skilled canine skaters and their dedicated fans.
A standout moment of the day was the dogs’ relay race aimed at setting a new Guinness World Record. Each participating pooch navigated a 10-meter course, with the goal of submitting footage for official record consideration. Anthony Bitmayl, CFO of the event, confirmed that if the video meets the standards, it will pave the way for an official record attempt in the future.
In addition to the canine skateboarding feats, the festival featured human performers showcasing their biking and skateboarding prowess, alongside beginner dogs learning the fundamentals of skateboarding.
“This event is truly unique,” said Bitmayl. “It’s the first of its kind, combining a festival atmosphere with the excitement of dogs on skateboards. Everyone loves seeing K-9s in action, and this event brings that joy to life.”
Looking ahead, the organizers hope to use the event’s success to support a broader mission: the creation of a sanctuary where dogs can roam freely and find a permanent home.
