Snow Industry News has revealed a significant theft scandal involving one of the world’s leading ski brands. A former employee of Atomic Skiing has been accused of orchestrating a prolonged criminal scheme, resulting in the theft of 1,900 skis from the company.
The accused, a 57-year-old man previously employed at Atomic’s Pro Center in Altenmarket, was entrusted with the disposal of skis that had minor defects. Instead of following protocol, he allegedly sold these defective skis at approximately €50 per pair (about $54.60), a substantial discount from their retail price. This illicit operation reportedly spanned several years, yielding significant personal profit for the accused. Authorities believe an accomplice may have been involved in the scheme.
During a recent raid on the suspect’s residence, law enforcement officials uncovered 300 stolen skis linked to the theft. The accused now faces criminal charges for theft, which could potentially lead to a prison sentence of up to three years.
In the wake of these revelations, Atomic Skiing has undertaken a comprehensive inventory audit and is enhancing its security protocols to prevent future incidents.
