Barstow, CA – A magnitude-4.9 earthquake struck the Barstow region of Southern California on Monday afternoon, followed by at least two notable aftershocks. The initial quake, centered in the Mojave Desert of San Bernardino County, was reported at approximately 1:30 p.m. local time.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded subsequent aftershocks measuring 3.5 and 2.8 in magnitude. The tremors were felt across a broad area, including in major cities such as Los Angeles, Pasadena, Glendale, Chatsworth, Granada Hills, Chino, Universal City, and Claremont.
The Calico Fault, which traverses the desert near the epicenter, is identified as the closest fault line to the earthquake’s origin. Despite the notable shaking, no immediate reports of structural damage or injuries have been reported.
Barstow, situated roughly 100 miles northeast of Los Angeles, experienced the full impact of the seismic activity, highlighting the region’s vulnerability to such natural events. The USGS continues to monitor the area for any additional aftershocks or updates.
