A transformative $11 million project is set to rejuvenate a section of the Arkansas River near City Park in Pueblo, revitalizing the area where the old dam once stood. This ambitious endeavor will create a safe and seamless water passage from the Nature Center to the kayak course in Downtown Pueblo, opening up a myriad of aquatic activities.
The new park promises a water enthusiast’s paradise, offering opportunities for wakeboarding, surfing, rafting, tubing, and kayaking. With the addition of these activities, locals and visitors alike can look forward to spending more time enjoying the river.
Duane Nava, President of the Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce, is enthusiastic about the project’s potential to draw both community members and tourists. “This new attraction will hopefully drive tourism and visitors into this area,” Nava said. “We want them to stay at our hotels, eat at our local restaurants, and enjoy drinks at our local bars. It’s about showcasing all that Pueblo has to offer.”
Nava emphasized the economic benefits for local businesses, stating, “Adding amenities that both our community and visitors can enjoy results in a positive economic impact. Our lodging association, hotels, restaurants, and bars all stand to benefit.”
Officials from Pueblo Water have indicated that the project is expected to be completed by late fall. In the meantime, they urge the public to steer clear of the construction zones to ensure safety.
With the promise of new recreational activities and a boost to the local economy, Pueblo’s riverfront revitalization is poised to make waves in the community.
