Kim Knor of Michigan has spent a lifetime defying gravity, nearing her 700th skydiving jump at the age of 85. Since she was 20, Knor has fearlessly launched herself out of airplanes, a feat that would unsettle many. Despite her diminutive stature of 5 feet, this great-grandmother has embraced the skies as a member of “JOE” (Jumpers Over Eighty), marveling at the freedom of flight.

Knor’s skydiving journey began in 1962 as part of the first US women’s team, earning her a gold medal and inspiring generations of skydivers. “I used to watch the birds flying and wonder how do they do that?” she reflects, encapsulating her enduring passion for the sport.

With aspirations to achieve 1,000 jumps by next year, Knor continues to challenge perceptions of age and adventure. Though she now skydives tandem due to her age, her enthusiasm remains undiminished. “This is the life, to retire and play in the sky,” she exclaims, reveling in the exhilaration of each jump.

As World Skydiving Day approaches, Knor encourages everyone to experience the thrill she cherishes. For Daniel Castillo, a skydiving instructor, Knor serves as a beacon of inspiration. “I’ll be so lucky if I get to be her age and keep jumping,” he admires, highlighting her indomitable spirit.

Reflecting on her unconventional hobby, Knor humorously acknowledges the perception: “It is a little weird,” she concedes with a smile. Yet, for her, the skies offer endless joy and freedom, proving that age is no barrier to chasing one’s passions.

In a world where retirement often means slowing down, Kim Knor defies convention, embracing life’s heights with every jump.
